To protect yourself against having new charge accounts and credit opened in your name place a credit freeze on your account with the 3 credit bureaus if you are not planning to open new charge accounts yourself.
According to a recent survey by the Investor Protection Trust one out of every 5 Americans over the age of 65 has been the victim of a financial scam. When you include boomers this percentage is even higher. Remember the old adage if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
