Traveling with people that have Alzheimer's
Traveling is a stress for everyone and all diseases that cause dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. To lessen a person’s ability to adapt to stress I often recommend that caregivers try a one-night trip nearby with a loved one before going on a longer trip. If you did this and the patient became overwhelmed, then it is probably best not to take her/him on a longer trip. If you do travel be prepared to take her/him away from the event, ceremony, party, etc. since she/he may become overwhelmed by the crowd, the excitement, or the high level of sensory stimulation.
